Grand Canyon Star Party

June 1-8, 2024

Get ready for celestial wonders of the night sky at the Grand Canyon Star Party! From June 1 – 8, this free, week-long event is your chance to explore the universe alongside passionate astronomers and fellow stargazers from the dark skies of The Canyon.

Every night, engaging presentations kick off at 8 pm at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center – (pro tip: arrive early for the best seats). After dark, explore the universe up close through a variety of telescopes set up in the parking lot. Feeling curious? Park rangers lead guided constellation tours at 9 pm, 9:30 pm, and 10 pm, making the night sky accessible to everyone. Aspiring astrophotographers can even hone their skills at free night sky photography workshops.

Planning Your Visit:

  • Reserve Your Spot: Campground or lodging reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak season.
  • Dress for Success: Temperatures drop quickly after sunset, so pack warm layers even during summer.
  • Red Light Required: Respect fellow stargazers by using a red flashlight. White light disrupts night vision.
    • DIY Red Flashlight: Cover your flashlight with red cellophane (available at the Visitor Center) or use red nail polish/marker on the lens.
  • Free Shuttle Service: During Star Party, the Village Route shuttle runs every 30 minutes until 11 pm.
