South Rim Updates

  • The Grand Canyon remains open and continues to welcome visitors. The South Rim is currently under Stage 2 Water Restrictions as a conservation measure, and Camper Services remains open for guests. Campfires are permitted only in established campfire rings. Visitors are asked to use caution, practice responsible fire use at all times, and continue to conserve water.
  • Lipan Point and Lipan Point Road along Desert View Drive (Highway 64) will be closed to all visitors from June 22 through December 23, 2026, for critical rehabilitation and maintenance work. Tanner Trail will remain open, hikers must park at No Name Point and walk to the trailhead.

  • The North Kaibab Trail is open for hiking (foot traffic only), though visitors should expect possible delays or temporary closures due to ongoing maintenance, post-fire conditions, and weather. Trail maintenance and rehabilitation work will continue throughout 2026, and hikers should anticipate temporary closures or delays.
  • Cottonwood Campground and the North Rim Campground have reopened for overnight stays, and most backcountry areas are now open.
  • Lodging will not be available within the park on the North Rim in 2026, but fuel, food, and water are available at the North Rim Country Store and Jacob Lake.
